1. What do I do if online incident reporting is not right for me?

Online reporting should be used for documentation purposes only. If your incident is an emergency, you should call 911. If you are reporting a crime and need to speak to an officer or want an officer to follow up with you, please contact our non-emergency call 951-769-8500.

2. If this happened in another city, can I file a report using this online police citizen reporting system?

No, if a crime took place outside of the City of Beaumont please call the police department for that city or county.

3. What is a known suspect?

A known suspect is when you or someone else knows the person or where to find the person who committed the crime or the license plate number of the vehicle the suspect(s) were in.

4. What if this happened on a state Freeway?

If this took place on a state Freeway please call the Highway Patrol Office nearest you.

5. What can I expect after I file a report?

You can expect the following process to happen after you file a report:

1. Once your report is filed, a copy of the report will be reviewed by a Watch Commander within 24 and 48 hours of submission.
2. The Watch Commander will either approve the report or request additional information from you. 
3. You will receive an email notification regarding the status of your report. 
4. If the Watch Commander requests additional information, you will file a supplemental report. Your report will not be approved until any additional information requested is provided.
5. Once your report is approved, you will receive an email with information on how to print a copy of your final report for your records. These copies can also be used to file with your insurance company, bank, courts, etc.

1. Where does the information about the crimes come from?

Community Crime Map compiles data and other information from Beaumont Police Department to make it easier for the public to stay informed about crime. Data in Community Crime Map is provided directly from this agency, and every step is taken to ensure that the data is of the highest quality and accuracy. An automated feed of the data from comes from the Beaumont Police Department crime database into the Community Crime Map database. Receiving the data directly from ensures that the data is always up to date, accurate and complete.

2. How can I see the source of the crime data?

You can view the source of the crime data for any incident by clicking on the event on the map. The information window lists Beaumont Police Department as the agency that provided the information. The Metadata tab also lists the source and links to each source’s web page for the incidents that are currently in view.

3. How does it work?

Beaumont Police Department keeps detailed records about each incident that occurs in our jurisdiction. When an incident happens, the officer that responded to the incident writes a detailed report with information about the event including the location, people involved, related vehicles and other useful information. 

This information is stored in large secure databases, which can make it difficult for two neighboring cities to share crime data and benefit from being able to analyze events and offenders that cross city boundaries. Community Crime Map helps centralize and standardize this information into a national database of crime to improve regional data sharing analysis.

4. Does Community Crime Map filter data?

The data is taken and personal information is redacted to protect victim privacy, and then it is displayed to the public so citizens can be aware of the events that occur in their area and take action to stay safe.
