The City of Beaumont Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Friday, August 30, 2024, at an undisclosed location within the city limits. The checkpoint will operate between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce deaths and injuries caused by impaired drivers.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, as well as checking for proper driver’s licenses. “Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Chief of Police Sean Thuilliez. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The Beaumont Police Department reminds the public that driving while impaired is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While certain medicinal and recreational drugs are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana, for example, is illegal.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, and a suspended driver’s license. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, call 9-1-1.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provided funding for this program.
