[ARCHIVED] Injury Traffic Collisions and Road Closures

Injury Traffic Collisions and Road Closures

Beaumont, CA - On Sunday, February 6, 2022, the Beaumont Police Department responded to several injury traffic collisions and a DUI in the City of Beaumont. At approximately 3:00 p.m. Cal Trans reported the #1 and #2 lane of the Eastbound I10 freeway were closed due to a collision blocking lanes. The collision coupled with on-going construction along the I10 and 60 freeways caused traffic to divert onto city streets. The congestion created significant delays and reports of dangerous road conditions for drivers. During this time the Beaumont Police Department conducted three injury collision investigations, a driving under the influence arrest and several traffic enforcement stops.

At approximately 6:09 p.m., a two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of 6th Street and Beaumont Avenue. One party was injured and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. A temporary road closure was set up while officers cleared the wreck.

In response to the high volume of vehicles traveling in the city, the Beaumont Police Department directed units to focus on traffic enforcement at busy intersections. During the enforcement officers contacted a subject who failed to stop at stop sign at the intersection of 6th Street and Xenia Avenue. Officers determined the driver was driving impaired and arrested the subject for driving under the influence.

At approximately 9:38 p.m., a 911 was call was received reporting a major injury traffic collision in the area of Beaumont Avenue and Cougar Way. Officers and Cal Fire responded to find a two vehicle collision, with a 19-year old male who was trapped inside one of the vehicles. Firefighters extricated the male from the vehicle and he was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. The collision is still under investigation, but the initial investigation determined speed was a contributing factor.

At approximately 10:26 p.m., a third minor injury traffic collision was reported at 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Two vehicles were involved, causing a road closure along 6th Street. One female had a complaint of pain but declined to be transported by AMR.

In addition to the injury collisions and DUI, officers conducted several traffic enforcement stops contacting drivers and issuing citations for various infractions during afternoon/evening hours.
